The Green Energy Project Leaders

Facilitators:

Matthew Marienthal was a founder of the Green Energy Project. A Dean's List junior at Bates College. As a supervisor at Amigos de Las Americas in Guanjuato, Mexico he organized forty volunteers in community development projects, coordinated wtih local government and NGOs. In his work at the Maine Human Rights Commission, he has interviewed and researched issues of discrimination and abuse in Maine communities. He has worked on legal aide projects in Chicago, and planed a community development project in Lempira, Honduras. Matthew is excited to bring his experience with young people, construction, and community development to the Green Energy Project.

Advisors and Wolfe's Neck Farm Staff :

Eliav Bitan was a founder of the Green Energy Project. A graduate of Columbia University. He has seven years of experience as an outdoor and environmental educator at Wolfe's Neck Farm. He worked with Columbia to initiate the University's greenhouse gas emissions inventory, and make sustainable purchasing decisions. In his second year at Columbia, he led an Environmental Engineering team that built a solar panel with 25% improved efficiency. He worked as a research assistant on wind and renewable energy for two years, and worked at Columbia Business School helping to administer a pro-bono consulting program. He is an internationally read blogger at Celsias.com.

Blake Kast was a founder of the Green Energy project. A senior at Grinnell College, she brings experience as an educator from pre-school to high school, on farms, kayaks, and in classrooms to the Green Energy Project. As a high schooler she organized events from prom to graduation, coached sports teams and led fundraisers for international youth based organizations. Since graduating, as a Rippleffect guide she has lead kayaking expeditions designed to develop leadership and cooperation. She is currently a pre-school teacher at Grinnell College Pre-School and co-president of Grinnell's Socially Responsible Investing Club.

M D “Mitch” Mitchell is the Education Director at Wolfe’s Neck Farm since 2003. He has a Masters Degree from the University of Southern Maine in Education. Prior to coming to the Farm, Mitch was a classroom teacher in Japan and Maine for 5 years. Mitch is a captain in the Maine Army National Gaurd, has been involved planning, coordinating, and managing construction projects in Maine, Arizona, California, Guatemala, and Iraq, most recently electrical generation facilities for Kurdish villages in Northern Iraq in 2004 - 2005. He is currently deployed in Iraq

Heather Foran is the Education Coordinator at Wolfe's Neck Farm. A graduate of Williams College, she was a science teacher with the Traveling School from 2006-2008, working with high school aged students in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. As part of the curriculum at the traveling school, she taught her students about energy economics, climate change, and the consequences of fossil fuel based energy systems.
